7 Years in Action

The Harlem Hurricanes youth basketball team began in 2012. The program started when our founder’s son was in middle school. After guiding his son through his childhood, he decided he wanted to help other kids as well. During his younger years, our founder found a mentor in a basketball coach. He was so inspired by the guidance he received from that coach that he wanted to offer that same mentorship to the kids in his community. And thus, the Harlem Hurricanes were born!

Our Goal

We want to help shape, prepare and develop youth so that they can be ready for society. Our goal is to mentor and teach them life skills while also building their character, leadership skills and self-confidence through basketball. We are not just a youth basketball team, we are a non-profit organization that takes pride in giving back to our community also. We participated in the Central Park Breast Cancer Awareness Walk to raise funds for breast cancer research. We also won the Alimoe Dunking Diabetes Awareness Basketball Tournament. Everyone that we encounter will be given an opportunity to find within themselves their self-worth, self esteem and self-awareness. This will prepare them for whatever may come their way. We pride on success stories from former players.

Why Harlem Hurricanes

Our team is a great way for youth to form the necessary life traits they need to succeed down the road. This includes discipline, charisma, confidence, patience, and motivation. Right now we only have boys on our teams, but we’re hoping to expand to include co-ed. That way all our children can enjoy the benefits of the Harlem Hurricanes! The kids of today are distracted more than they are motivated. Their common activities are all passive in nature. This can be depressing for active young minds. With our help, they can focus on something active and physical. We’re located in Manhattan and provide our services to kids all around New York City. If you want your children to have active physical fun and learn useful skills for later in life, you should sign them up for the Harlem Hurricanes! You can also donate to our cause via our website. All donations go towards expanding our program and providing our kids with great experiences!
